Can / should “Advanced Ant Stations” or “Drax dual Ant Bait” be used or applied under rugs or carpets?
Small ants like to move and even nest under carpeting. On slab homes, cracks commonly form here leading to direct access for ants as well as other pests. Additionally, the tacking used to hold down the carpet will form a small void or space as well as a solid line for the ant trails to get established. In many homes this is a key nest location site and should always be inspected when dealing with small ant infestations.
Since lifting the carpet to gain access under wall to wall carpet is both time consuming and cosmetically disrupting to the installation, using something that will last a long time is a good idea when treating such areas. A better choice over bait is one of the new ant spray concentrates like PHANTOM EC or PT-PHANTOM AEROSOL. Both are non detectable by ants and other insects so the targeted pest will commonly walk over treated surfaces without concern. This enables the active ingredient to infiltrate the entire colony as the worker ants coming in contact with the treatment will bring the active back to the main nest. In the end, the whole nest will be rendered useless. These new family of chemicals are the better value in the long run compared to the aerosol form but will require a PUMP SPRAYER to be applied. The aerosol form is ready to spray and therefor easy to use. It’s ideally suited for small jobs or treatment needs.
If the carpet is an area rug or one which can have it’s edges easily lifted, installing ant bait like the ADVANCE BAIT STATIONS or the MAXFORCE BAIT STATIONS would be feasible and almost as good of a choice compared to using the Phantom. The DRAX DUAL is a gel and when applied to such an area will many times dry up quickly so it’s not the best formulation for this location. Bait Stations will be easily found by foraging ants and will yield positive results in the long run so if you insist on baiting this area, stick with the stations over any gel bait.
