Hi there,
I am writing to you in regards to our huge springtail problem. We built and moved into our house in the fall of 2005. In the May/June of 2006 we began noticing springtails in our basement and then in other rooms of our house. We had a major pest control company out to look at them. No one seemed to know what these insects even were at the time. After a lot of searching online I figured it out. This company tried everything they could think of to get rid of them with no success. Here we are 4 years later and we are still dealing with the springtails every spring and summer. The only thing we have found to help control them is to line the perimeter of our basement with glue boards. It is so frustrating to have a new house and a problem like this. We have tried so many things suggested to us over the years. Basically I was told today that using glue boards was probably the only thing we could do to control them.

I believe we have springtails outside around our house. We live in Iowa, I noticed them last fall and then they went away when the weather was cold but I noticed them again last night and the weather has been warmer here. We have a big tree outside our house and its above our driveway and I notice them more on my car then anything. Last fall they use to be all over our front and back porches and my car, but I had an exterminator come spray last week and since then I haven’t noticed them much on our porch, a few here and there, but not like they were before. We have a gravel driveway and we have mulch around the front of our house. I am not for sure where they are nesting from. Any suggestions would be great and any advice on what to do to get rid of them would be great too. we don’t have any flower beds and I didn’t know if they could come from the tree? I just know I don’t like having to worry about them, especially with summer coming and wanting to be outside. I notice them more in the afternoon and late afternoon. they start to go away as the sun is going down. Let me know if you believe these are springtails and what I can do about them. Thanks.

Jonathan,
My husband and I moved into a home at the end of August in in October we found springtails all around the exterior of our home. They have not entered our home to my knowledge. We live in CT so we have been going through a funny weather pattern right now. We've had 2 snowstorms this week and for each one I have seen a mass of springstails in the snow. They are not close to our home at this point, but I am nervous they will get closer as spring approaches. We were able to kill the nest in October. My husband set it on fire. I followed the population as far as I could into the woods, but I was unable to find the nest today. I would like to find it before spring comes. Do you have any advice to finding the nest in the woods? Please let me know. Thank you for your help.

Hi, I have a springtail infestation in my red worm compost bin. (At least I think they're springtails. They look like translucent white lice or mites, very tiny and crawly). Can I kill the springtails without hurting my worms?

I have seen springtails in & around my home in massive numbers. I've had an exterminator come out several times who has sprayed the perimeter of the house, inside & out, the shrubs, grass, etc. The most recent spray was very aggressive. It killed every bug I saw, except the springtails. They also used a flea killing type spray on the entire first floor inside my home. Nothing they have done is killing them. After reading your SPRINGTAIL CONTROL ARTICLE, I am assuming it is because the nest area hasn't been treated or the right chemical/s wasn't used ???

I just finished watching your video and I can say that you have by far the most information regarding springtails. We are currently having a springtail invasion into our house. We just bought a brand new home and have only been in it for about a month and a half. I have a feeling that either the springtails came from the new sod that was laid or were already in the walls when we bought the house. Either way we have them and they are driving me up the wall. At first it was a few here and there, but now they are really making their presence known. They are coming in through the sliding door in our kitchen and hanging around our kitchen sink. Now they are making their way to our upstairs bathroom. We have taken every step to eliminate moisture in the house, we have had pest control come out several times, and I have already poured vinegar down the drains to eliminate any nesting or springtails in the drain. However, these things keep coming back. I have a 4 month old and I need these things to be gone. I caught one crawling on him. And I know they are virtually harmless to humans, but I don't care. I don't want them on my son. We have also already pulled the sod away from the house and had pest control spray there as well. Most websites say to wait them out and they will leave when the moisture is gone and it dries up outside. However I live in Texas and the humidity is killer, so moisture is probably not going away anytime soon. What do I do? I am at my witts end, I am thinking about picking up and moving because I can't take them anymore. Please Help.

If I see a lot of pests around and under outside movable concrete pool statute on the ground. Should I get rid of the statute ( medium size)? It's made out of some hard material but not concrete. I think it’s even hollow. I know I see springtails on and around it and under it. I usually spray there with regular pesticides. I know one thing I’m pro-active here because I don’t ever want them in my house again. It’s only four years old.

Your article on Springtail control was the most informative I’ve seen. I have had a problem with them for years and no one here in Palm Bay Florida has a clue about how to control them, more or less treat them. Do you know any pests folks here who seem to have your knowledge of Springtails?
