cypermethrin storage life
Hi, Does the Cypermethrin shelf life vary from powder to liquid? I would like to spray the under soffits along my house as I am inundated with Mud Dauber nests. How long will the product keep if kept on the shelf….can it be kept in a hot garage or should I store it inside (live in South Florida). I am thinking I should order the 8oz wettable powder which should provide about 6-8 treatments so I'm wondering if it will keep a couple years…Thanks.
Most all of our concentrates will remain stable at least 5 years when stored at room temperature, out of direct sunlight and in a dry environment. Once you get past 5 years, liquid and aerosol products will begin to degrade but wettable powders can and usually remain stable. When deciding on how much to get, we generally recommend getting amounts you'll use in 3 seasons or less. This insures you'll safely use them before they go bad and in most cases means you won't have massive quantities stock piling. Our products are packed in small containers and in most cases our 8 oz, pint and quart sizes are more than adequate for the average homeowner to get. These sizes are both small and easy to handle.
As for storing anything in a "hot" garage; I advise against doing this. I keep my products in the cool confines of my basement. It maintains a steady 75 degrees throughout the year which is ideal. Garages tend to get hot and cold and this variance will degrade most of what we sell much faster than a stable environment so avoid such locations if possible.
The CYPERMETHRIN you're inquiring about listed in our MUD DAUBER ARTICLE is a good example of the product lines we carry. This product is concentrated and in general, people should only mix up what they intend on using at that time when using such a product. In other words, if you mix up a gallon of finished spray, use it all and don't store any in the sprayer more than a day as it will go bad quickly. Remember, our concentrates are not formulated to last long in a "mixed" state. This is part of their design and very much intentional; ready to use sprays off the shelf found in most home centers will contain all kinds of stabilizers and solvents. These additives will add odor, contaminants and in the long run make the product much less effective compared to the pure concentrate form we carry. Of course, this means you must do a little mixing with our products prior to applying them, but in general this will be easy to do and well worth the time and effort.
