cypermethrin and pets

Will the cypermethrin harm animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits? What would I have to do in order to protect my pets from the chemical? Thank You.

For the most part, our products do not pose a hazard to people or pets when applied properly. Our concentrates are in many ways just like common household products such as bleach or ammonia. Like these products, Cypermethrin poses the biggest hazard in its concentrated form. That's why it's important to keep all such materials out of the reach of children and pets when storing them. But once any of these are diluted and mixed with water, the hazard is dramatically diminished because the concentrate is so diluted. With Cypermethrin, you are mixing such a small amount of chemical (1 oz or less per gallon of water) that the finished spray is mostly water. For this reason it poses very little hazard to non target animals like pets. So just what safety precaustions are needed when treating around the home? Here are some suggested guidelines.

Whenever you use any of our products we always recommend keeping children and pets away from the area being treated till the area has had time to dry. This is usually 30-60 minutes. We also recommend removing any loose items like toys from the areas being sprayed as well. This is more of a concern when treating inside; outside applications require less preparation but again, children and pets should be away from the areas when the application is being done. Once dry, they can all return and go about their usual patterns of behavior without worry.

For more safety details, view our online SAFETY VIDEO which is very specific and complete. The first one is on aerosol products; you'll want the second one which covers the use of concentreated products. These videos go over everything including safe storage, handling, preparation and storage of our pesticide concentrates. They also shows safe treatment techniques in different environments. We have videos for all the different types of products we carry and they're just a few minutes long but after viewing, I'm sure you'll have the confidence to use our materials safely in and around your home.
