I have a lot of daddy long leg spiders on the side of my home, by my air conditioners, and it seems like they are multiplying out of control. I need some kind of spray but didn’t see anything listed on your site. What can I use? I just want to spray the outside good.
Daddy long leg spiders are actually insects and not true spiders. They like shady areas where it’s moist so seeing some around the air conditioner is no surprise. Fortunately they don’t bite or sting and are easy to control. The following video shows what they look like close up.
Several foundation residual products like BIFEN IT or CYONARA RTS will work well on this pest. Be sure to treat all the way around the house, up the siding, and especially under the eaves. Daddy long legs like to hide in depressions and corners when dormant and can many times avoid being seen during the middle of day. And they’re not spiders so they don’t have webbing on which to rest. They must touch the siding but their long legs do a good job of shielding them from your treatments so a thorough application is needed. The good news is that they’re vulnerable and sensitive to these treatments. That means so you can usually knock them out with one good application. Be sure to use a good PUMP SPRAYER or HOSE END SPRAYER to get the treatment where it need to be. Daddy long legs like to rest up high and failure to get the treatment up where they’re resting will let them continue to live on your house.

I always heard that daddy long legs were the most poisonous spiders in the world, only they don’t have mouths large enough to bite a human. Is this true?

@Michael: Not true.

I am moving where daddy long legs are present (regularly). I understand they shouldn’t hurt my dog or self but are my parakeets safe?

Daddy longlegs can’t bite so you and your pets are not in harms way. That being said, if you have them accumulating around the home, it usually means you have what we call “conditions conducive” for them and other pests. And since many predator pests like centipedes like to feed on daddy longlegs, don’t be surprised if you start finding other insects coming around now that there is a good supply of food for them on which to feed.
To get rid of the daddy longlegs and any other insect pest from nesting on your home, simply treat the outside exterior siding with the Bifen listed above. It’s long lasting, odorless and highly effective on most any insect. Treat every 2-3 months and you’ll no doubt get rid of the daddy longlegs as well as any other pest that might be attracted to these same areas.
