I have a ground hog that has eaten at my wood shed(at the frame and inside the door) pretty badly. I was told to put a rag soaked with ammonia down and I also picked up some poisonous peanuts. Do you have any other recommendations? I think he is living underneath the shed and tries to get into the shed becasue we keep our garbage there. Any other suggestions. I had put down moth balls but I think he is still there. Thanks for your help.
Before you try any more ground hog remedies, I suggest you review the information we have posted in our GROUND HOG CONTROL ARTICLE. There you will learn that once an animal has established a good place to live, repellents won’t work well if you wish for him to be gone. In fact, the best way to remove an unwanted ground hog would be to use one of the traps that are detailed in the article.
Once you have removed any unwanted ground hogs, you can then place out some of the repellents we list and they will keep new ones from coming around. We have found that either RED FOX URINE or COYOTE URINE seem to work well on ground hogs so change over to one of these and don’t waste any more time with the ammonia or poison peanuts.
