When it comes to grub control, there’s no doubt I like to use the MERIT over Cyfluthrin. I’ve learned with the Merit I only have to use it once or twice a year and it handles most all the pests I get in the yard. But I also learned that using granules by themselves is not the best grub pest control program. As our online GRUB CONTROL article explains, spraying over the top really helps achieve better results – especially if you have live activity.
Since you’re located in Florida, your winter there will not be too extreme. This is a great time to do some grub control since grubs are most active from the fall to the spring. Get some Merit Granules applied now and treat over the top with some of the Cyonara RTS. Cyonara will provide a quick kill of any active grubs and the Merit granules will provide a good residual through most of the winter.
But there is one thing I highly recommend you do before treating. Have you recently tested the pH of the soil? Over the years I’ve seen soil pH levels have a major impact on how well insecticides, herbicides and fertilizers can effectively work. If you haven’t been testing your soil pH on a regular basis, get a good Soil Probe and be sure to test not only where your grass is growing but also any pine straw islands or other areas with mulch like wood chips. Many times flowerbeds and other places adjacent to the lawn can have a really bad pH that adversely affects the grass. We’ve got more information posted online at www.soil-ph.com If you measure a pH that’s less than 6.5, you’ll need to get it back up to the safe zone before proceeding with any of the products for your grub problem.
