Cave/camel crickets. They seem to also emit an odor. Is that correct? Trying to get rid of them.
Thanks.
No doubt cave crickets stink. One can say they have a foul odor that permeates their surroundings. And if you get some on your hands it’s really nasty. Now do they get this odor because of where they live or because of something biological? Regardless, it’s strong and hard to remove but we have two agents you can use to eliminate the smell.
For small jobs, set out one of our AEROSOL MACHINES equipped with our ODOR NEUTRALIZER. The machine will release a small amount of odor neutralizer every 15 minutes and this will break down the smell. After a few days, the smell will be gone.
Fill it with a can of ODOR NEUTRALIZER. The machine will release every 15 minutes and in turn, effectively kill off the smell
For large scale jobs, mix 8 oz of NNz with 1 gallon of water and wipe down, spray or sponge it out over all surfaces where the odor is active. NNz works instantly and one mixed gallon will cover up to 500 sq/ft of surface area. Great for crawl spaces, living spaces, carpeting, walls and even turf out in the yard.

We’ve recently discovered a bad odor coming from behind the finished wall in our basement. There is an uncovered space behind the wall which is insulated which is where the smell is coming from. We’ve observed cave crickets over the past year which never seem to die off. Recently we noticed what we perceive to be babies…not happy about this. Is it possible this odor, something akin to a mixture of mild cat urine, fish, and or ammonia, could be coming from the crickets? Thanks in advance.

Michael,
As stated above, cave crickets stink so yes, they’re contributing to any odor you might smell.
Now if you want the odor to be gone, treat the space as explained in our article here:
Cave Crickets: https://bugspray.com/cave-crickets.html
This will probably solve the issue but if it lingers 2 months after the crickets are gone, you’ll need to treat with our NNz.

What does the cave cricket smell like. I have a yeast smell in my kitchen and bathroom.
Tech Support says
Sandra,
It varies depending on the region, what they’re eating, where they’re living, etc. Some don’t have any odor; others are very offensive like something dead. In summary, no common way to describe them.
That being said, if you have some active in the home, you would expect to see some. And if you’re not seeing them inside living areas of the home, go to crawl spaces or basements and snoop around. If they’re around, you’ll find evidence.

My son has a gecko and the smell from the crickets. It’s vile. How can we get rid of the smell of wee from his bedroom?
Tech Support says
Sue,
The easiest thing to do will be to install one of our aerosol machines an odor neutralizer. It won’t posse a hazard to your son, the crickets or the gecko but it will will breakdown and eliminate the odor from the urine. Very easy to use and every effective, one per room will usually do the job. Order them above.
