HI, if you can answer a few questions before i buy some of your sprays. we were in the market for a truck camper, we have driven 2hrs to look at one, which we liked very much. However while inside we observed hundreds, and hundreds of STINK BUGS. Well we made a deal with the owner and asked him to remove all the bugs from the camper, which he said he will do his best. I have had the camper now for a week and take out approx. 50-100 a day. can this be resolved or should i sell it. Also will the smell from them go away?
I suggest you start by reading through our STINKBUG CONTROL ARTICLE. By reading through it, you’ll learn more about this pest so you’ll have a good understanding of how they behave and what the goal is when treating a local infestation. Unfortunately we don’t recommend spraying down the outside of Campers and RV’s with the Cypermethrin mentioned in the article. Additionally we don’t recommend using the D-Force Aerosol inside these units either. But if the camper has a lot of cracks and crevices on the outside which have allowed this pest (along with others) to enter, we recommend dusting them with DELTAMETHRIN DUST. Apply it with a HAND DUSTER to all entry points around the outside of the unit only. This should be done every spring and fall from year to year; treat during the summer if you find them active then but this is generally not needed once the problem is under control.
As for the living space, we recommend applying the PT-PHANTOM AEROSOL. This is a low odor material that works slowly. It won’t flush or kill them on contact so don’t expect to see any immediate results. But when any pest walks over a treated area, they’ll inadvertently transfer some material to other pests they nest with. When the active finally kicks in (which usually takes 2-3 days), every one that came in contact with any chemical will die. So in the end it will affect quite a few.
We also recommend setting out at least one STINKBUG LIGHT TRAP in the main room where you see activity. These can be powered by 110 volts or batteries for when the camper is inactive.
Lastly, once you feel the bulk of the problem is inactive, go ahead and wash the unit down with a mixture of NNZ and water. This will remove any bad odor immediately and can be safely used inside as well if needed. NNZ is ideal for stinkbug odor and will neutralize it upon contact. Be sure to get some into cracks and crevices where stinkbug were once nesting.
