I live in Central Florida and I bought my house last year. The yard was severely neglected and was comprised of mostly St. Augastine grass and lots of weeds. Coming from the north (New England) I like softer grass so I decided to make my yard all Bahia grass. My yard (front and back) is now almost an even mixture of Bahia and St. A (along with the weeds, but much less of them now). My question is this: I’ve read that the MSMA will kill the St. Augastine grass without harming Bermuda grass. Will my Bahia grass be ok or will the MSMA harm my Bahia?
MSMA is Ok to spray over Bermuda, Zoysiagrass and Bluegrass. These would be the only ones I would say are “tolerant” of the spray. In fact, it lists Bahiagrass as one that it can control as well as nutsedge, crabgrass and chickweed. At this time I would say MSMA would not be an option for you. We have more information on line in our Weed Control article.
