We have flying squirrels in our attic. Only one fell for the glue trap. We have also tried decoys (owls, snakes). Are these animals really that smart??? We cannot sleep at night. What products do you recommend? And is there anything we can do right now? Please help… we have not slept good in days.

Actually, flying squirrels aren’t that smart! However, as explained in our FLYING SQUIRREL CONTROL ARTICLE, they don’t like to forage much in the attic so unless you make trap placements right where they’re walking, don’t expect to catch many if any at all. Regular tree or gray squirrels will forage for food and you can live trap them most anywhere but this is not a luxury you’ll enjoy when dealing with flying squirrels.
When dealing with flying squirrels, it’s critical you make live trap placements right where they are nesting, storing food or defecating. This applies for GLUE TRAPS, LIVE TRAPS or ELECTROCUTING TRAPS.
If you are not able to gain access to these locations, set up a TRANSONIC ULTRA SOUND REPELLER or one of our STROBE LIGHTS. Both units are highly effective on flying squirrels and can be set to run all the time, on a timer to run only at night or via a manual switch so you can turn it on when they are active. Flying squirrels do not like the Ultra Sound and will stay out of attics where it can be heard. One unit will almost assuredly do the job. They also hate light and will retreat (leave) any time the strobe is on. People who use these for flyers find they work instantly so results are immediate. Most people will leave them installed an then turn them on during the winter months as needed. And either will suffice; the sound device could very well be heard inside living areas depending on the layout of the attic relative to where people are sleeping. The Strobe light is quiet and usually won’t affect anyone in the home. Neither is harmful to people or pets. If you have further questions, please give us a call at 1-800-877-7290.
